For the past 10 years The Fibreoptic Industry Association (FIA) has promoted high standards of services within the fibreoptic industry and represents its members at both National and International levels and within BSI committees.
The FIA membership comprises of Manufactures, Suppliers, Installers and End users. They are all provided with specialist information and support services when required, the FIA committee has a wealth of knowledge and experience on fibre construction of both the Multimode and Singlemode types, to advise on what you can do and what you can’t do, including best installation practices The Fibreoptic Industry Association is managed from the United Kingdom by the FIA Secretariat with the support of a management Council. Active Communication Company Limited has been a member of the FIA for over 8 years and actively promotes its best practices in the installations of fibreoptic. For the past 6 years Phil Whitehead has been elected to the board of directors and recently taken up the position as their Cross-media Promotion Director.
Phil’s aim is to assist with other solutions outside of the use of Fibre that plays a major part in the installation of Structure Cabling System which includes copper, coaxial and wireless. As an individual member of BICSI he holds their RCDD accreditation, Phil also promotes the FIA membership to other BICSI members.
Phil represents the FIA on the BSI TCT/7 Telecommunications – Installation requirements committee, where new and revised standards are discussed and recommending changes to assist the installation industry. These include BS 50173 series, BS50174 series, ISO/IEC 11801.
The BSI TCT/7 is working under the direction of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee, which is responsible for the UK input to ISO/ IEC JTC1/SC25, CENELEC TC 215 WG1, 2 and 3 and the preparation, revision and amendment of British Standards for Telecommunications - Installation Requirements.
